There could be doubt as to whether this athlete be considered a true Olympian, as he competed in one match only (against the Netherlands) and that match should not have taken place. The Netherlands had lost the quarter-final against Great Britain, who had lost the semi. Only teams that had lost to finalists Germany or Hungary were allowed to re-enter the battle for the bronze medal. The organisers messed up the schedule and the Netherlands played a match against Belgium (who had the right to compete in those matches). The Netherlands won the match and apparently this was used to eliminate Belgium from further competition, although the Dutch were also kept from any further matches. I have decided to call the match an official one, and therefore Bettens a regular Olympian.
