He was chosen to play Tarzan even before Johnny Weissmuller, but broke his collarbone before the first movie could be made. He then played Tarzan anyway, in the only movies that portrayed the character as a well-spoken English lord. Fearing to be typecast, he changed his name to Bruce Bennett, and would earn a number of credits. He was a skydiver, performing his last jump aged 96. He died over 100 years old.
