31200 7689.6 38895
Tug-of-War (*) 0
31200 7689.6 38889.6

When learning of a discus event at Athens, he had a replica made of the ancient discus, which weighed 5kg. He was amazed to find the actual discus used weighed only 2kg.
At Paris, he threw the discus three times into the audience.
There is some discussion as to his place in the High Jump, but I am sticking with Mallon who has him equal second.
(*) He also helped the USA to second or third place in the tug-of-war in 1900, but this medal is disputed, as it appears that spectators helped the American team. Apparently the Americans only competed hors-concours against the winners, since they could not free themselves from the Discus competition, which was conducted at the same time.
The Hellene Olympic Federation has an excellent site on the Athina Olympics, which includes a picture of Robert Garrett.

Gaudin had an extraordinary fencing career from 1904 to 1929, with a first World Title in 1905. He was however not selected for the Olympic Games in 1908, and French fencers did not compete at Stockholm, so he had to wait until 1920 for an Olympic appearance. At Antwerpen, he won team silver, but was wounded by an American, so again he missed out on individual honours. At Paris, after winning the team title, at which he contributed 22 wins out of 22, with 110 hits against 21, he felt an acute pain in his left hand, and once more he had to retire. He finally won his individual Olympic titles at Amsterdam, at the age of fourty-two. He was declared 'Hors Classe' by the French Fencing Federation, an honour never before bestowed on any fencer.
