He lived in the Dutch East Indies and travelled from there to Europe especially for the Olympics. He returned to the Indies and spent the war in a Japanese camp in Burma. After Indonesia's independence, he returned briefly to the Netherlands but settled in Australia.
This is the typical life story of a true colonial, and I class him as Indonesian as a result.
