He competed for clubs from Vitebsk and Minsk and so the MADMen consider him
Belarussian. Ukrainian language Wikipedia calls him Ukrainian, while Belarussian
sticks with Belarussian. Russian language Wikipedia relates that while the
Belarussian Athletics federation lists his 20-km time as the Belarussian
record, the IAAF does not recognise this. I shall class him as Ukrainian.
His place of death is never mentioned.
