He also competed in 1956, when he finished last in his heats of the 800m, 1500m and 4x400m. 16 years later, at the age of 40, he ran his fastest marathon ever, more than five minutes faster than he had run for his gold medal in 1968, but it only earned him a bronze.
In 1992, he was arrested for crimes allegedly commited in 1978. After more than 6 years in prison, his trial started only in 1999.
