Amsterdam 1928

The 1928 Water Polo tournament was a mess, as the organizers apparently did not know how to conduct the Bergvall system for third place. After a normal knock-out tournament, the teams that had lost to the finalists (Germany and Hungary) were supposed to play for the bronze medal.
Of the first-round losers, only Argentina had lost to a finalist (Hungary, while Germany had had a bye). Argentina actually played the last match of the consolation tournament, meaning they could have won bronze (but they lost 8-0). I class Argentina in ninth place, just ahead of the other first round losers.
In the quarter-finals, USA and Belgium were the teams that had lost to the finalists, so they should have played in the consolation event. For some reason however, Belgium played the Netherlands (and lost), while the USA played the other losing quarter-finalist, Malta (and won). I have decided to list Belgium, Malta and the Netherlands equal sixth, and the USA as fifth. Again, the match between USA and France was held AFTER the one between the losing semi-finalists, but I have decided to leave the USA in fifth and Great Britain in fourth.
France had won three consolation matches, albeit in the wrong order, and received the bronze.
